Pastor’s Communiqué      Summer 2010

Dear church family,

Most of us would be familiar with the Lord’s response to Paul in 2 Corinthians the twelfth chapter as Paul is recounting how God was using him even though his life was less than “perfect”.  “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.”    What amazing perspective the apostle is giving to us in this passage of scripture.   Our weaknesses, whether it be physical, emotional, or even mental are not a hindrance for God to be able to use us for His purposes.  Paul goes on to say that these ‘weaknesses’ are actually helping us and people around us to see God’s power.   Next time you disqualify yourself from being used by God because of some weakness, remember these words, “For when I am weak then I am strong.”

Joash Chest Offering:  This Sunday (Fathers day, June 20th) we will be receiving our second annual Joash Chest offering for the relocation of our nursery to Chapel Six.  Please be encouraged that the Lord wants to use you to do your part.  Remember, the only thing that God cannot bless is “Nothing”.   I am praying the Lord would speak and give you faith to give generously and sacrificially.

June 25th Fundraiser :  Several of our teens are selling tickets to “Night of the Arts” fundraiser for Friday night June 25th at 7pm at Collamer Road.  Desserts will be served and you can encourage and support our teens as they perform various entries for this year’s National Fine Arts event in Detroit later this summer.  Tickets are $10 per person and this is a great opportunity to bring a friend to church for something a little different.

June 27th Combined Service/Summer Kick-off:   ESV  will be joining us at 10am at Collamer road for our morning worship service.   Following the service will be a barbeque and fellowship time on our property (weather permitting).  The church will supply hot dogs and hamburgers.  Please bring lawn chairs and a dish to pass.

July 1-13  Missions Trip to India:   Pastor John Ginnan is leading  a group of nine to India to work with Missionary Steve Hoffman.  Please be praying for all the detail of this trip including: financial provision, safe travel and health, effective ministry, and for the Lord to have His way in their lives.

July 22-August 2  Missions Trip to Russia:  John Spencer is leading this group to Russia to work with Missionary Steve Hayes.   The trip will focus on ministering to University students.  Pray specifically for a divine connection between these students and our team.   Several individuals going on this trip are still in need of finances to meet expenses.

Thursday Small Group Ministry:   Beginning on July 8 we will have three adult small group Bible studies which will run through September 2nd

  1. Under 40 married couples small group.  Come out and strengthen your marriage and learn how to serve the Lord more effectively as a couple.
  2. Releasing the power of the Holy Spirit in your life.  Using the book by Dr. David Jeremiah “God in You”.
  3. A biblical guide to resolving personal conflict.  Using the book by Ken Sande, “Peace Maker”.

We will be meeting in Chapel Six on Thursday, July 8th.  We only ask that you ask the Lord where you should be and then stay with that group.

Kids Crusade August 4-6th in East Syracuse.  Irvin D. Clown (Rev. Kevin Ross) will be leading our outreach to the village of East Syracuse each night.  Rev. Kevin Ross is a children’s evangelist and specializes in community outreach.  All of our Rez Children ages 4-11 are welcome to participate as well.  More details are forthcoming.

Volunteer forms:   We are still collecting the volunteer forms we distributed a while ago.  The main function of the form is simply to reestablish our volunteer base as the strength of our church.  The information is gathered to discover where you best could serve at the Rez.  These forms can still be found at the Welcome Center (now in the back of the sanctuary).  If you have not already done so, please fill one out and return it to the church office.

Margaret and I look forward to starting our “soup night” up again in September.  So many of you have stopped by to fellowship and we had a great time with you.  Congratulations once again to all of our graduates!  Enjoy this summer, it’s the only one we haveJ
